Tanya Mesher Jones is a successful, well-known young Inuk artist from the small town of Kuujjuaq, Quebec located on the Ungava Coast. She is known for her contemporary paintings throughout the region of Nunavik. Tanya's art represents her Inuit culture but she is not afraid to explore and create more modern concepts. Her abstract acrylic paintings suggest simplicity, movement and colourful northern sceneries that carry you into her remarkable world.
Tanya was commissioned by the Makivik Government to make 11 paintings as gifts to prestigious guests, such as Quebec Premier Jean Charest. She was also a featured artist at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Tanya's paintings are displayed in houses, municipal and government offices and hotels around the Nunavik Region and the Province of Quebec. Tanya accepts requests for her artwork from private citizens and corporations and has participated in various projects for private sector corporations as well as government. Since 2008 Tanya has sold over 150 pieces of her magnificent works.
In her spare time Tanya continues to hone her artistic ability by attending and participating in workshops and seminars around the Nunavik Region. As a final tribute to her homeland, Inuit culture and tradition Tanya, through her art, informs the world of the Inuit gracefulness and traditional life and how it is evolving to present day. Tanya's vision is: "To inspire those to gain knowledge of the Inuit people and respect what they have gone through and accomplished in such a short period of time."
Sarah Lisa Kasudluak is from the shores of Hudson Bay where she lives and paints in her northern hometown of Inukjuak, Quebec. Sarah began painting as a schoolgirl when she was given brushes, canvas and paint by her first art teacher, artist Larry Williams, who also opened the door for her introductory job as a set-painter for the television production "Nunavimmiut."
Sarah's paintings and drawings reflect and transmit her appreciation and understanding of the unique, nurturing landscape. Sarah painted many landscapes from memory during the years she was away from her community to attend college. In this way the heartfelt connection between Sarah and the land was kept open and at the same time some of her homesickness was relieved. Sarah's paintings are fresh, clean, and evocative. She captures the 'power of place' in her direct style with strong strokes of the paintbrush, the stillness and presence of a land that is in each moment ancient, timeless and brand new. Sarah Lisa is an innovative young talent with a deep connection to her roots.
