Meet the Artists of Summersault!

by Gallery Artplus Administrator 11. August 2010 21:12

Every Artist who is featured here at Gallery ArtPlus have incredible stories to accompany their personal, spirital, fun works of art. Artists play, create and produce something new to showcase, in hopes to reach another individual, learn more about themselves or simply for experimental purposes. Art can be taught but true artistic passion is inherent and always evolving if nurtured and challenged. Read the biographies of our upcoming artists.

Anne Ireland

As an Artist, Anne Ireland is interested in the figure as it emerges through or sinks into time, mythology, air, metal, canvas...life. Schooled as a dancer, Anne came first to understand how feelings and states of being could be expressed through the body, by the body. Anne paints as a dancer using artist's tools to express those same feelings and states of being she is trying to create a presence, a moment, an event between realism and abstraction in hopes to reveal a truth by not "capturing" it.

Allison Knudsen

Allison Knudsen is currently living and working in Toronto. She keeps busy with her own gallery and events space in Cabbage Town hosting art events along with business gatherings. Her passionate abstracts are compelling and thought provoking. Allison's control over her medium aids her in creating a loose yet chaotic quality with the paint. In combination with her use of colour Allison's work produces an overall calming experience.

Michelle Mendlowitz

Michelle Mendlowitz is a Toronto based ceramic artist who has completed her bachelor of design at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Since graduating in 2005 she has continued a studio practice, participating in several exhibitions and teaching both out of her studio and at the Koffler Centre for the Arts. Michelle Mendlowitz's work consists of both functional and sculptural objects and often falls in a space between these opposing ends of the ceramic spectrum. The forms she creates are derived from landscapes and borrow elements from nature, architecture and the human form. They serve as markers of time and intention through which she gains further insight into herself and the world around her.

Robin Tieu

Robin Tieu is from Vancouver, she studied at Langara College and graduated from the Nova Scotia School of Art & Design. Robin's work ranges from utilitarian objects to sculptural work that explores the relationships between the material world, its creators and consumers.

Christa Markstahler-Flynn

Christa was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Her artistic gifts revealed themselves at a very early age. With the support and encouragement of her parents, and world renowned Gallerist and Art Dealer- Pro. OHo van de Loo, (Galerie can de Loo, Munich, Germany), Christa honed her special skills during a 4 year Arts Program, at the C.W. Jefferys Art Centre in Toronto. In 1978, her work was displayed at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, in a group show, and was also a featured artist, in two of their brochures. Christa started her work career with Maclean Hunter in Toronto as a Pasteup Artist. In the later years, she had a lengthy and successful career in a supervisory capacity, with ongoing efforts and studies in specialized Law Enforcement, while still maintaining her interest, and love of the arts. Christa's entire life came to a full stop, due to a major life changing event, which left her disabled. Since then, she has had to face numerous challanges. She did so with strength, determination and hope, and had undergone much personal growth and development. Through this opprotunity, Christa has been gifted with time to reflect on life, nature and her surroundings, while also revisiting the arts, to express herself, which was invaluable in helping to improve and maintain the mind/ body/ soul connection. Christa has found great joy in revisiting the various art mediums. She has completed work utilizing watercolour, acrylic, Chinese watercolour, pen, photograhy, as well as wood burning, to complement the work, as a whole. The primary inspiration of her work is presented to her by nature itself, usually starting with an interesting form or shape, which catches her eye, She futher develops and interprets it, utilizing her new, creative expression. Since disabled, Christa's art work was featured at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto in Scarborough, Quinte Exhibition, and in the Nikkei Voice- A National Forum or Japanese Canadians. Christa currently resides in the Belleveille ares, and continues to create and enjoys the new surprises, presented to her through her own self expression and exploration of her work.
